Who supports you?

Updated: Mar 12

This one’s for all the women running businesses from home.

Except we don’t really think about ourselves that way do we? I mean - as business owners?

We used to just say that we worked from home.

But then everyone started working from home.

So now we just shrug and say we have a little side hustle.

Not even that; we shrug and say we do a little writing or a little designing or a little contracting; small jobs.

I have seldom heard a woman of a certain age (mine) confidently declare that she is an entrepreneur or business owner, unless she is making some serious bank.

For my own part, I mostly only talk about the contract that I have with a large organisation.

I have never replied “I am a business owner” to the question, “what do you do?”

I may talk about diverse income streams and working on some new ideas.

But the fact is, diverse income streams are jobs…. that I created and I serve.

Businesses that I am working on. My own.

And so it begs the question; if I am not totally honest about growing three businesses;  if I am not supporting my own endeavours, then who is supporting me?

If I am not recognising myself as a leader of my businesses, then how can I support myself as a leader? Perhaps with some acknowledgement of our roles as leaders of these diverse income streams, we may discover that there is infinite support for us; and consequently, our businesses.

Support like AI tools for our inner accountants, our inner marketers and our inner salespeople.

Support like mentors who have trailblazed and could pave our way.

Support like networks to connect and share.

Support like professional development.

Sometimes it's not your business or your brand that needs investment. Sometimes it’s you; the leader of it all.

Perhaps if you stepped into leadership, you may just become the support that you  - and your business -  needs.

For your consideration........
